“The term ‘gun control’ scares gun owners. Stop using it.” Washingtonpost.com, 31 Jan. 2020, p. NA. Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints, https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/A612891656/OVIC?u=ucinc_main&sid=OVIC&xid=c91eb453. Accessed 12 Mar. 2020.
This was a brief article written by the view point of someone who does not own a gun. The author of this article talks about the term “gun control” and how it sounds threatening to responsible gun owners. This term is counter productive to the actual meaning. The author suggest using the term “gun safety”. She suggest this term will not come off as offensive to responsible gun owners.
Assessing this short article, I think the author makes a valid point. With Gun ownership being such a hot topic in the political world the term “Gun control” only sounds threatening to responsible gun owners. I personally know people who get all bent out of shape when they hear the term “Gun control”. However I think that the term “Gun safety” would not sound threatening to them. If the political world started using “gun safety” both political sides may be able to meet in the middle on an agreement.
reflect- Reflecting on this, I would consider this short article credible. The author is a reasonable reasoner.
McManus, John F. “Chicago’s restrictions on gun ownership don’t stop gun-related crime.” The New American, vol. 29, no. 5, 4 Mar. 2013, p. 9. Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints, https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/A322904425/OVIC?u=ucinc_main&sid=OVIC&xid=11dabda8. Accessed 12 Mar. 2020.
REVIEW- This short article talks about the city of chicago putting a ban on guns. However legal gun owners are the only ones turning in guns and criminals still have their weapons therfore making legal owners “prey”.
ASSESS- Assessing this article, I would have to agree that banning guns is not going to get rid of gun violence. it is not fair to legal gun owners.
REFLECT- Reflecting on this article, this article is credible and brings up good points. the dialogue is assertive yet appealing to all audiences.
